In 1902, Richard Steiff, Margarete Steiff's nephew, designed the first jointed bear which, under the name "Teddy Bear", quickly came to occupy an important position in the toy world.

Whilst the limbs of the first Teddy Bear were fastened to its body by means of strings, it was as early as 1905 that Steiff developed the cardboard disc joints that is still in use today (!).
In 1993 Margarete Steiff GmbH reproduced the first of these jointed bears, the Baerle 35 PAB 1905.

Like the original he is sewn from the finest mohair plush, is stuffed with very soft kapok fibre and has a sealed wax nose. His claws and mouth are hand stitched and his paws are made of high quality wool felt.
