made of finest mohair brass 5-way jointed with glass eyes stuffed with wood shavings with removable metal hot-water bottle limited edition of 3,000 pieces in 2001 with gold plated "Button in Ear" 50 cm / 20 inches surface washable CAUTION! This product is not a toy and is intended for adult collectors only. UPC: 4001505406621 Richard Steiff, one of Margarete Steiff’s nephews, designed the first jointed bear made of mohair plush in 1902. Even at that time, there were no limits to the creativity of Steiff. And this was demonstrated after a particularly cold winter in 1906, which saw Berlin covered in a thick blanket of snow and temperatures well below zero, when a Teddy bear was converted into a hot-water bottle cover. This Teddy bear was a major attraction at the 1907 Leipzig Trade fair. His special feature is his hollow tummy, which is closed by means of copper hooks and a cord. This hollow cavity accommodates a metal canister that can be filled with hot water, making this Teddy an ideal companion on cold nights. Although an unusual article for its time, only 90 (!) of these were manufactured between 1907 and 1914.
