This product is not a toy and is intended for adult collectors only. UPC: 4001505400407 Animals on wheels are to be found in the Steiff range as early as 1880. They are frequently large enough to ride, with sturdy axles and wheels. And so attractive, they captivated the King of Württemberg who ordered a whole collection for his grandchildren in 1911. These impressive, wheeled animals continue to exercise a great fascination today, so, to mark the centenary of the “Button in Ear” trademark, Margarete Steiff GmbH presented in 2005 a replica of an elephant on wheels made in 1903/04. The 43 cm /17.2 inches tall grey elephant is crafted by hand from finest mohair in the traditional manner and stuffed with wood shavings (excelsior). He stands on cast iron wheels and has a red saddlecloth embroidered with “43” to indicate his size. Also like the original, he has wooden eyes. Since this replica goes back to 1903/04, the elephant has a stainless-steel button trademark with an embossed elephant in his left ear, modelled on Steiff’s very first trademark buttons. The white, consecutively numbered tag is sewn into the seam in his left back leg.
